WHY
NOW?
Now is the time for a compelling and informative documentary film about end-of-life choices.
How we die is increasingly in the public consciousness. As baby boomers age they are witnessing not only the deaths of their parents and but also the demise of some of their peers.
Advances in technology have become more adept at keeping people alive – often extending the dying process as families anguish. On the other hand, over the last twenty years hospice has attained national stature with its patient and family approach to end-of-life care - neither prolonging life nor hastening death
In January 2006, the United
States Supreme Court rejected the Bush administration's challenge to the
nation's only law allowing physician aid in dying—Oregon’s Death With
Dignity Law.
Network television shows such as The West Wing, Judging Amy, and E.R.
have looked at helping individuals die as have two 2005 Academy
Award-winning films: Million Dollar Baby and The Sea Inside. Indeed,
end-of-life issues are now part of the cultural landscape.
